Lab Director

Bo Zou is an associate professor in the Department of Civil and Materials Engineering at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He is also a faculty partner of the Center of Excellence for Airport Technology at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. Bo received his Ph.D. in transportation engineering (University of California at Berkeley, with minors in industrial engineering and operations research, and economics), M.S. in transportation planning and management (Tsinghua University), Diplôme d’Ingénieur in general engineering (Ecole Centrale de Nantes), and B.E. in civil engineering (Tsinghua University).
Bo is excited about the many technology innovations that are happening and reshaping how humans move and move things, and has been passionately exploring new frontiers of mobility systems research driven by the technologies. In pursuing those uncharted areas, his research has been supported by agencies including the the World Bank, NSF, DOE, DOT, the American Public Transportation Association, the Illinois and California Departments of Transportation, and the Chicago Department of Aviation, among others. Bo also serves a number of roles in the transportation research community, including as an associate editor of Transportation Letters, an editorial board editor of Transportation Research Part B: Methodological (the top journal in the field), and an editorial board member of both Transportation Research Part C: Emerging Technologies and Transportation Research Parts E: Logistics and Transportation Review (two leading journals in the field).
